Her lifelong passion of all things history, especially Tudor history, has imbued her with a feeling of connection to Anne Boleyn, the Queen of Henry VIII and mother of Queen Elizabeth I. Holly-Eloise feels a kinship with the strength and sense of self that Anne displayed.
Holly-Eloise comes from a large family (she is the eldest of seven!) and family is most important to her. Her family includes many friends, both in England and online. My Thoughts on This Title
Overall, it was an interesting read. Although, I will admit it took me a while to be fully hooked on the story. But, once I was it had to be completed before beginning another title.
The book is written in the first-person narrative as Anne Boleyn writes her story while awaiting her fate in the Tower of London. At times, you are reading her thoughts. At other times, it is as if Anne sat down and has written her autobiography out to show how unjust the sentence is.
Holly strives to bring a more vulnerable side to Anne Boleyn. One of a woman deeply in love with her husband. That she was driven to support decisions that had a lasting impact on the lives around her. And, in the end, she received an equally devastating fate compared to some who failed to support her efforts like Thomas More.
I'll admit that while you may feel a bit of pity for her demise, there is no question that Anne Boleyn had her eyes on the prize of queenship and would do anything for it. Sadly, she forgot that if those before her could be disposable that she could as well. Yet, the times were not exactly hospitable for women who were at the mercy of the men in their lives.
If you are also fascinated with this time period of English history, then this selection could be an interesting read.
