About Wager's Price

Finn Wager’s luck has run out. Arrested for the one crime he didn’t actually commit, he’s forced to finish his education at an alternative school. The Revelations Institute is an upscale, private reform school with a 100% success rate. Delinquents go in and model citizens come out.
But students who don’t perform to expectations disappear. And although their bodies return model citizens, their minds are hardly their own. Something evil lurks inside Revelations, and if Finn and his new friend Hope can't find a way to stop it, they’ll risk more than their lives. The repercussions could cost them their souls.

My Thoughts on Wager's Price
I adore a good fantasy style book and this one did not disappoint. You soon get the sense that something is amiss with the Revelations Institute and how students like Finn Wager have ended up going there. It seems that all of the new students were given the choice of incarceration or attending the school for a semester. Yet, each of the students claims that they did not commit the crime of which they are accused.
The author does a good job of providing clues without giving everything away at once. That kept me hooked looking to find the ‘truth' about Revelations Institute. Readers know from early on that there is a possible connection to demonic activity as one of the main characters is the last Soulkeeper. But the truth comes out in layers so that readers may become more engaged in the story. This includes the mysterious location of Revelations Institute where electronics do not work and there is no communication permitted with the outside world. Additionally, the instructors at the school seem to have supernatural abilities that the current students eventually begin to acquire.
The novel's end leaves some things open-ended with an evil force left loose in the world. Finn is now able to find meaning in his life as he will join Hope and others to find and eradicate the threat. Where the author will take readers in future novels is up for grabs. However, it is a ride I am willing to take.
